David J. Hafner

David J. Hafner is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of New Mexico and serves as Chair of the Bioscience Department at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. His academic affiliation with UNM complements his leadership role in bioscience research and curation at the museum.

• Ph.D. in Biology (1981) from the University of New Mexico

Research interests focus on phylogeography of mammals, the evolution of North American deserts, and conservation issues in the southwestern United States. His work bridges evolutionary ecology with biogeographical analysis to address biodiversity preservation in arid ecosystems.
