Research Interests
Professor Hornsby’s research is strongly interdisciplinary, bridging the biological and social sciences. He focuses on the politics of science, international political economy, and foreign policy analysis—particularly Canadian and South African foreign policies. A second major strand of his scholarship interrogates pedagogy and the philosophy of higher education, with emphasis on socially just teaching practices, large-class innovations, online and open education, and post-pandemic university transformation.
Recent publications (2020-2025) reveal a concentrated effort to re-imagine higher education after COVID-19. Collectively these works analyse:
- Equitable and inclusive online learning infrastructures

- The civic role of the “citizen scholar”
- Policy frameworks for resilient universities
- Global South perspectives on educational technology
