David Hills

Dr David Hills is a Lecturer in Outdoor Education at the University of the Sunshine Coast's School of Education and Tertiary Access. With over 20 years of experience in primary, secondary, and higher education, he holds a PhD, MEd, PGCE, and BSc(Hons) in Outdoor Education-related disciplines.

His research focuses on integrating digital technology into outdoor learning environments, emphasizing intentional, systematic, and evidence-based approaches. He has conducted extensive fieldwork across 23 countries, developing frameworks for technology management in hazardous outdoor settings. His publications explore topics like AI in outdoor education, eco-anxiety, and presence dynamics when using digital tools.

Dr Hills actively supervises HDR students and maintains professional memberships including Outdoor Education Australia, Queensland College of Teachers, and Paddle Queensland. His teaching portfolio includes courses on coastal environmental studies, senior curriculum design, and digital technology optimization in outdoor programs.
