David G. Lott, M.D., is a Professor of Otolaryngology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and serves as Chair of the Division of Laryngology within the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. He is Associate Director of the Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics and founder and medical director of the Larynx and Trachea Transplant Program. His clinical and research work focuses on regenerative medicine, laryngeal and tracheal transplantation, and voice and swallowing restoration.
Dr. Lott earned his M.D. from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, completed residency at the Cleveland Clinic Head and Neck Institute, and pursued fellowship training in Laryngeal Surgery and Professional Voice at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital. His research interests include regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, laryngeal transplantation, airway stenosis, and laryngeal cancer. He leads the NIH-funded Head and Neck Regenerative Medicine Laboratory, which focuses on scaffold generation, stem cell differentiation, and acellular therapeutics.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend in regenerative medicine and translational otolaryngology, with a focus on tissue-engineered laryngeal and tracheal implants, immunomodulation in transplantation, and clinical outcomes in airway disorders. Key themes include bioengineering solutions for voice restoration, immune tolerance in laryngeal allografts, and innovations in reconstructive surgery.
