David Cieri is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Music at The City College of New York, where he has taught courses on Music and Film Scoring for over fourteen years. A composer and musician, he has scored documentaries for renowned filmmakers including Ken Burns and has released nineteen albums, collaborating with artists like Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Yusef Komunyakaa.
His research explores interdisciplinary connections between music, archaeology, and technology, notably through the European Music Archaeology Project and World Carillon Project. He investigates acoustic properties of ancient sites and reimagines historical soundscapes through contemporary compositions.
Honors include an Emmy Award and Oscar nomination recognition for documentary scoring. He currently leads projects examining carillon bell acoustics across international heritage sites and developing VR reconstructions of prehistoric sound environments.
