David Chapman

Dr David Chapman is a Senior Lecturer at the University of East London (UEL), affiliated with the School of Arts and Creative Industries and the Department of Media, Fashion & Communications. He leads the MA Filmmaking program and teaches film production, history, and professional practice at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He also supervises practice-oriented PhDs and DFAs.

• Research Focus: Sound and image interaction, ecological perception, audio-visual installations, and temporal dimensions of place

His work explores the intersection of film, sound art, and environmental studies, often involving collaborative projects with international artists and institutions. He co-founded Schema, UEL's Student Film Production Unit, and is a member of the Moving Image Research Committee.

Recent projects include The Marsh (2023), Art as Problematic Waste (2019), and Meanings of Failed Action: Insurrection 1946 (2017), which investigate ecological sound, historical memory, and cross-cultural artistic collaboration. His publications address theoretical frameworks for context-based sound and perceptual models.
