David Butler

David Butler is a Senior Lecturer in Drama and Screen Studies at the University of Manchester. He holds a PhD from the same institution and has been affiliated with the Drama Department since 2003. His research focuses on film music, sound design, and electronic music history, particularly the work of Delia Derbyshire. Butler has supervised numerous doctoral students and is a recipient of multiple teaching awards, including the 2022 Teaching Excellence Award.

Education: Studied Human Communication and Drama at Manchester, later completing a PhD there (1996–2000).
