David Brasington

David Brasington is a Professor and holds the James C. and Caroline Kautz Chair in Political Economy at the University of Cincinnati's Lindner College of Business, Department of Economics. He earned his PhD in Economics from The Ohio State University (1997), along with a MA in Economics (1993) and BA in Economics (1991) from the same institutions, with minors in Spanish and Political Science.

His research focuses on the relationship between house prices and school quality, school district consolidation, school choice, and regression discontinuity applications to local government tax issues. Current projects explore effects of road maintenance spending cuts, police funding changes, and public spending on health outcomes.

Recent publications demonstrate statistically significant impacts of infrastructure spending on housing markets, particularly in urban areas. He has presented research in 7 countries and across multiple US states.

Brasington teaches Microeconomics, Public Economics, and Urban Economics at all levels from undergraduate to PhD. He serves on numerous committees including RPT, Taft Research Center, and departmental leadership committees.

As an active peer reviewer and session chair, he contributes to journals like Journal of Regional Science, Regional Science and Urban Economics, and conferences such as American Real Estate Society. His media presence includes WLWT-TV, Cincinnati Enquirer, and international radio appearances.
