Professor Dave Bush holds a faculty position at the University of West Georgia (UWG), specifically in the Department of Natural Sciences, Geology Program under the Dr. Perry College of Mathematics, Computing, and Sciences. He has been at UWG since 1995, following prior roles as an exploration geophysicist at Pennzoil, coastal geologist at the U.S. Geological Survey, and Research Associate at Duke University's Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines. He earned his B.S. (1975), M.S. (1977), and Ph.D. (1991) in Geology from SUNY Oneonta and Duke University.
His research focuses on coastal storm processes, hazards mitigation, and risk assessment along U.S. Atlantic/Gulf coasts and the Caribbean. He has authored books, journal articles, and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Southeastern Geology and Associate Editor of Journal of Coastal Research. Courses taught include oceanography, geomorphology, and risk assessment at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Recent publications emphasize coastal monitoring and hazard analysis. He maintains editorial leadership roles in geoscience publishing and actively contributes to coastal science through interdisciplinary research.
