Christopher Daly

Christopher Daly is an Assistant Professor of Coastal Geomorphology in the Department of Marine & Earth Sciences at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Bremen (2013) and an M.Sc. from Delft University of Technology (2009). His research focuses on the morphodynamic evolution of coastal systems, including barrier islands, reef-lined coasts, and storm impacts. He employs remote sensing techniques and numerical modeling to study sediment transport, nearshore wave processes, and coastal resilience.

Education: B.Sc. Civil Engineering (University of the West Indies), M.Sc. Coastal & Marine Engineering (Delft University of Technology), Ph.D. Coastal Geomorphology (University of Bremen).

Research interests include coastal hazards, remote sensing applications, and the intersection of physical oceanography and coastal geology. He currently investigates storm impacts on Southwest Florida and sediment pathways in Jamaica’s reef-lined coasts.

Teaching courses include Coastal Dynamics, Coastal Management, and Marine Geology. His work has been supported by grants such as the Florida Sea Grant-funded project on Hurricane Ian’s geomorphic impacts. He frequently presents at conferences like Coastal Sediments and AGU Fall Meetings.

Professional affiliations include The Water School at FGCU and collaborations on international projects like CARIB-COAST. His lab focuses on integrating satellite data and field observations to enhance coastal vulnerability assessments.
