Darbaz Khasraw

Darbaz Khasraw serves as a Principal Engineer at the Centre for Manufacturing and Materials, conducting critical research in sustainable manufacturing and industrial decarbonization. His expertise focuses on transforming traditional metallurgical processes through renewable resource integration and emission reduction strategies within the iron and steel sector.

His research spans iron and steel production, biomass energy utilization, alternative ironmaking processes (including HIsarna technology), coal processing, and decarbonization pathways. He investigates thermal behavior of fuels under varying conditions, biomass characterization for metallurgical applications, and sustainable process optimization to achieve net-zero industrial operations.

Dr. Khasraw currently contributes to the Clean Futures - West Midlands Innovation Accelerator project (2023-2025) as an Academic, supporting transport SMEs in overcoming decarbonization barriers. His publication record in high-impact journals like Fuel demonstrates consistent contributions to sustainable metallurgy, with recent work examining biomass applications in steelmaking and thermal decomposition characteristics of carbonaceous materials for alternative iron production.
