About
Dr. Dany Beste is a Senior Lecturer in Microbial Metabolism at the University of Surrey's School of Biosciences (Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences). He holds a BSc (Hons) from the University of Sussex, an MSc in Medical Microbiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a PhD from the University of Surrey. His research focuses on tuberculosis and mycobacterial metabolism, with a particular emphasis on metabolic pathways, drug development, and systems biology approaches to understand pathogen survival strategies.
Dr. Beste has supervised postgraduate students including Jordan Pascoe, George Mayson, Abigail Cook, and Claire Davison. He is a Senior Editor at Microbiology and contributes to the BBSRC Pool of Experts. His teaching emphasizes interactive methods and integrates primary literature to engage students in scientific discovery.
His most recent publications explore ATP-driven antibiotic lethality in mycobacteria, single-cell analytical techniques (e.g., SC-ICP-MS and lipidomics), and metabolic vulnerabilities in tuberculosis. These studies underscore his commitment to advancing antimicrobial drug development and understanding host-pathogen interactions at the cellular level.
