Daniela Smolov Levy is a Visiting Assistant Professor in Music at Occidental College, appointed in 2023. She holds a Ph.D. in Musicology from Stanford University, an M.A. in Piano Performance from New York University, and a B.A. in Comparative Literature and Music from Princeton University.
Her research focuses on the history of popularly oriented opera in America and early twentieth-century Yiddish theater. Currently, she is working on a book about Yiddish speakers' engagement with opera in early 20th-century America and collaborating on a project about Yiddish theater at Tel Aviv University.
She has taught opera history at Pomona College and courses on music, class, and cultural sociology at the University of Southern California. Her work has been published in Musical Quarterly, Journal of Synagogue Music, and Wagnerspectrum.
