Daniela Maria Oliveira Gandra Ribeiro

Daniela Maria Oliveira Gandra Ribeiro is an Assistant Researcher and Group Leader of the Virus Host-Cell Interactions Laboratory at the Institute of Biomedicine (iBiMED), University of Aveiro. She holds roles as Deputy Director of the PhD program in Biomedicine, Coordinator of the Biosafety Committee, and Coordinator of the Biosafety-level 2 Cell Culture Facility. Her academic journey includes a Biochemistry degree from the University of Porto (2001), a PhD in virology at Wageningen University (Netherlands), and postdoctoral research at Pompeu Fabra University (Spain) and the University of Aveiro.

Her research focuses on viral-host cell interactions, including organelle roles in antiviral responses, peroxisomes in viral life cycles, proteostasis, and innate immunity vs. viral oncogenesis. She leads projects such as 'Interaction between viruses and peroxisomes' (2018–2022) and 'Viruses and Epitranscriptomics' (2021–2024). She collaborates on initiatives like 'Multi-target theranostics for Alzheimer's disease' (2023–2026) and 'Modulation of host translation machinery' (2025–2028).

Her expertise spans virology, cell biology, and antiviral strategies, with a focus on translational research to discover therapeutic targets. She actively coordinates interdisciplinary projects to enhance biomedical research and international collaboration at the University of Aveiro.
