Daniela Mardones-Bravo

Dr. Daniela Mardones-Bravo serves as a Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University within the Faculty of Sociology and Criminology and contributes to research at the Policy Evaluation Research Unit (PERU).

Her academic qualifications include:

• Master’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Edinburgh
• PhD in Criminology from the University of Edinburgh

Her doctoral research investigated the experiences of older individuals in Chilean prisons, examining intersections of ageing, incarceration, and penal policy. Dr. Mardones-Bravo specializes in the sociology of punishment, prisons, and criminal justice through qualitative methodologies, with particular emphasis on vulnerable populations and social justice implications. She actively seeks to amplify marginalized voices within the criminal justice system and advocates for evidence-based policy reforms.

As a core member of PERU, she engages in applied research evaluating criminal justice practices and policies, prioritizing real-world impact through collaboration with stakeholders and practitioners.
