Dr. Daniel R. Perez is a Professor and Georgia Research Alliance Distinguished Investigator in the Department of Population Health at the University of Georgia, affiliated with the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center (PDRC) and the Center for Vaccines and Immunology. His work focuses on influenza virus transmission, zoonotic potential, and vaccine development. He holds the Caswell S. Eidson Chair in Poultry Medicine.
Education:
- BSc in Biochemistry, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Argentina (1989)
- PhD in Molecular Virology, University of Nebraska Medical Center (1995)
Research Contributions: Pioneered studies on quail as hosts for influenza viruses, leading to Hong Kong poultry market policy changes. Demonstrated molecular mechanisms enabling avian influenza transmission in mammals. Led USDA-funded avian influenza control programs (2005–2011) and contributed to the NIAID-funded CEIRS Center for Research on Influenza Pathogenesis (since 2007).
