Daniel R. Kavish is an Assistant Professor of Sociology & Criminal Justice at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU), where he teaches courses in sociology, corrections, criminal justice, and social science research methods. His academic home is in the College of Arts and Sciences, specifically within the Sociology & Criminal Justice department.
Dr. Kavish earned his educational credentials from prestigious institutions, completing his Ph.D. and M.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, with dissertation and thesis work focused on interactionist labeling theory. He received his undergraduate education with a B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois at Springfield.
His research interests span several critical areas within criminology and sociology, with particular focus on juvenile delinquency, convict criminology, sexual behavior, stigma processes, deviant subcultures, and racial disparities throughout the criminal justice system. Dr. Kavish has developed significant expertise in labeling theory, exploring how formal and informal labeling affects criminal behavior across the lifespan.
