Daniel J. Philippon is an Associate Professor of English at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, affiliated with the Department of English and the Environmental Humanities Initiative. His research focuses on American environmental literature, ecocriticism, and the intersections of food studies with sustainability. He earned a PhD in English from the University of Virginia (1998) and has held prestigious roles such as Senior Fellow at the Rachel Carson Center (Germany), Fulbright Scholar in Italy, and Visiting Professor at École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (France).
His recent book, *The Farmer, the Gastronome, and the Chef: In Pursuit of the Ideal Meal* (2024), examines the impact of food writers like Wendell Berry and Alice Waters on sustainable food practices. His work bridges literary analysis with practical engagement, emphasizing ethical practices in agriculture and cuisine.
Philippon has received teaching awards for courses on environmental humanities and sustainability. His current projects include a literary history of sustainability through writers’ homes, addressing water quality, climate change, and biodiversity.
