Dr. Daniel Huerta is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics & Finance at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) and a Research Fellow at the Lucas Institute for Real Estate Development & Finance. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Texas-RGV and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Universidad Rafael Belloso Chacin, Venezuela. His expertise spans corporate finance, financial management, and real estate investment trusts (REITs). He teaches courses in corporate finance and has served as Associate Director of the Student Managed Investment Fund at the College of Charleston.
Dr. Huerta's research focuses on REITs from corporate and investment perspectives, with over 20 peer-reviewed articles in journals like the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics and Applied Economics. His work explores topics such as investor sentiment, market efficiency, and operational dynamics in real estate markets. He is a member of the Financial Management Association and the American Real Estate Society, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Real Estate Literature.
His recent research highlights include analyzing REIT operational efficiency, the impact of global diversification, and pandemic-driven shifts in housing preferences. He advocates for experiential education through REIT-focused modules in capstone courses.
