Daniel Hole

Daniel Hole is a Professor and Head of the Department at the Institute of Linguistics, University of Stuttgart. He currently serves as Dean of Faculty 9 (since 2021) and previously held the position of Dean of Study Affairs (2018–2021). His administrative roles include Chair of the Examination Board for German Majors (2015–2020), Secretary of the German Linguistic Society (2016–2018), and Spokesperson for the Stuttgart Research Focus 'Language and Cognition' (2016–2018).

His research specializes in theoretical linguistics, with emphasis on syntax, semantics, and crosslinguistic typology. Key areas include focus particles, binding theory, locative alternations, and the syntax-semantics interface in languages such as German, Chinese, Vietnamese, and sign languages. His work integrates formal analysis with corpus-based and computational approaches to linguistic variation.
