Daniel Chartrand

Daniel Chartrand, MD, PhD, FRCPC is an Associate Professor and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia at McGill University's Faculty of Medicine. He is affiliated with The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital), which operates as a McGill research and teaching institute and delivers patient care as part of the Neuroscience Mission of the McGill University Health Centre.

Dr. Chartrand's research interests focus on patient safety, anesthesia, medical education, and neuroscience. His work spans healthcare quality improvement, neuroimaging applications in neurodegenerative disorders, and medication safety protocols. His research demonstrates a strong interdisciplinary approach connecting clinical anesthesia practice with neuroscience and patient safety initiatives.

Dr. Chartrand has served in significant leadership roles related to patient safety, including as Chair of the FMSQ Patient Safety Committee. He has participated in numerous committees including those of the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society, Canadian Patient Safety Institute, Quebec Ministry of Health, and MUHC. He has been actively involved in professional development initiatives at McGill, the FMSQ, and the RCPSC (ASPIRE program).

His clinical work primarily involves providing anesthesia care in the operating room at The Neuro, while also collaborating on basic research projects with colleagues. His publication record shows consistent contributions to patient safety literature, neuroimaging research, and anesthesia science over the past decade.
