Dr. Daniel Bor is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) since 2021, holding the academic rank equivalent to Associate Professor. He also serves as a Visiting Research Scientist at the University of Cambridge, where he leads the Cambridge Consciousness and Cognition Lab. His research focuses on consciousness, cognitive aging, dementia, and the application of information theory to neuroscience. Bor completed his first degree in Philosophy and Psychology at Oxford University (1997), followed by a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge (MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit) under Adrian Owen and John Duncan. He has held positions at the Sussex Centre for Consciousness Science and the University of Cambridge Department of Psychology.
His research interests include neural mechanisms of consciousness, resilience in aging brains, early dementia diagnosis via novel brain-scanning techniques, and information theory methods. He has authored The Ravenous Brain (2012), a popular science book on consciousness, and co-edited 30-Second Brain (2014). Bor is also active in science communication, appearing on radio, in newspapers like the Wall Street Journal, and at institutions such as the Royal Institution and BBC.
Key awards include the Wellcome Trust Fellowship (2017) and recognition for The Ravenous Brain as a best book of 2012. His work bridges clinical and theoretical neuroscience, exploring how cognitive processes emerge from neural dynamics and their implications for aging, mental health, and artificial intelligence.
