Daniel Bender is a Professor in the Department of Historical and Cultural Studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) and holds the Canada Research Chair in Cultural History and Analysis. His research spans interdisciplinary areas including American cultural and labor history, animal studies, food studies, comparative literature, and the history of empire.

- Current Project: A book and digital project titled Animal Empire: Zoos and the American Exotic
- Teaching: Courses in American, food, and animal history, as well as the Intersections, Exchanges, and Encounters program
His work has been published in journals such as International Labor and Working-Class History, Radical History Review, and Journal of Social History, and he received the UTSC Principal's Research Award in 2009.
