Dana Powell Russell

Dana Powell Russell serves as Lecturer in the Department of Visual and Public Art at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB), where she integrates social justice and sustainability into all aspects of teaching and curriculum development. Her work embodies CSUMB's core values of inclusion, sustainability, and service within higher education.

Her research and teaching expertise spans Socio-educational Equity, Museum Studies/Education, Visual and Performing Arts Education, Creative/Maker Education, Curriculum Integration, and Nonprofit/Public Administration. She approaches education as a transformative practice that cultivates students' critical thinking, self-awareness, creativity, and compassion through socially engaged art practices.

Dr. Russell teaches VPA 320S Museum Studies and serves as Capstone Advisor for VPA 395-04 Special Topics, guiding students in developing community-oriented projects. Her flexible appointment structure allows personalized student support through by-appointment office hours, reflecting her commitment to accessible education within CSUMB's vibrant coastal campus environment.
