Stephanie Johnson

Professor Stephanie Johnson is a faculty member in the Visual and Public Art department within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB). She holds the rank of Professor and specializes in public art, installation art, lighting design, public policy, African American art, and theatre.

Professor Johnson's research interests span multiple creative and academic domains:

• Public art and its community impact
• Installation art techniques and methodologies
• Lighting design for artistic and theatrical applications
• Public policy related to the arts
• African American art history and contemporary practice
• Theatrical arts and performance

Professor Johnson teaches a variety of courses including Senior Capstone, Ways of Seeing, Major Pro Seminar, Regional Art History, The Artist in Society, and Diverse Histories in Contemporary Art. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes meeting students where they are and facilitating transformative growth that extends to both personal development and world transformation.
