Dan Miller

Dan Miller is a Professor of Printmaking and Sculpture at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), where he has been a faculty member since 1964. He teaches in the Certificate/BFA and MFA programs, serving as a Critic and instructor in relief printmaking. He has held key administrative roles including Chair of the MFA Program since 1998, Chairman of the Painting Department, and Dean of Faculty.

Miller earned an MFA in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania in 1958 and graduated from PAFA in 1959. His academic journey and long-standing affiliation with PAFA reflect a deep commitment to art education and studio practice.

His primary artistic and teaching focus lies in printmaking and sculpture, particularly woodcut and relief printing. Inspired by rural Pennsylvania and Maine, Miller integrates wood grain texture into his imagery, which often features landscapes, birds, insects, and portraits. He emphasizes both technical mastery and expressive potential in printmaking.
