Dr Dan Metcalfe is the Director of CSIRO Environment, leading impact-driven environmental science across Australia. With expertise in landscape ecology, sustainable resource management, and climate-related natural hazard resilience, he has coordinated major initiatives like CSIRO’s response to the 2019/20 bushfires and advised governments on ecological challenges in the Murray-Darling Basin and Northern Rivers regions.

He received the Ecological Society of Australia's Ecological Impact Award (2022) and CSIRO's Chairman’s Medal (2018) for his work on bioregional assessments.
