Prof. Damir Brdanovic is a Professor of Sanitary Engineering at IHE Delft and Endowed Professor at Delft University of Technology since 2009. He leads research in wastewater treatment, faecal sludge management, and emergency sanitation systems. His innovations include the Shit Killer® device, eSOS® Smart Toilet, and MEDiLOO® medical toilet. He has secured over USD 30M in grants, primarily from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and European Commission. He supervises 15 PhD students and has guided over 200 MSc graduates. Brdanovic is a co-founder of the Global Sanitation Graduate School and chairs the UN World Toilet Day Committee. His awards include IWA Fellow (2015), IWA Publishing Award (2018), and IWA Inclusive Urban Sanitation Champion Award (2023).
