Daisy Drew Pickup

Daisy Drew Pickup serves as a Senior Research Associate and Associate Tutor at the University of East Anglia's School of Environmental Sciences and is a Research Group Member at the Centre for Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences. She earned her Master of Research and Bachelor of Science in Oceanography from the University of Southampton.

Daisy Pickup's research centers on marine biogeochemistry, with a focus on carbonate chemistry and pH dynamics in Antarctic coastal waters. She employs autonomous underwater vehicles (Seagliders) and shipboard sensors during expeditions such as the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration and Polar Science Trials to investigate the effects of phytoplankton blooms, sea ice variability, and glacial meltwater on ocean acidification. Her work significantly contributes to understanding climate change impacts in polar regions.

Her publication record includes a 2022 article in Communications Earth & Environment addressing quality control methodologies for biogeochemical float data, which enhances the reliability of ocean carbon cycle observations. This research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and life below water.

Currently, Daisy leads the MaSCOt (Marine Sensors for Carbon Observations) project funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (2024-2026). She has extensive field experience, having participated in multiple Antarctic research cruises aboard the RV Nathaniel B Palmer and RRS Sir David Attenborough, contributing to major international collaborations including PICCOLO.

Her scientific outreach includes media coverage of Antarctic killer whale behavior and polar research ship trials, demonstrating her commitment to public engagement in environmental science.
