Cyrus Schayegh

Cyrus Schayegh is a Professor of International History at the Geneva Graduate Institute (IHEID) since 2017. He held prior roles as an Associate Professor at Princeton University and Assistant Professor at the American University of Beirut. His research focuses on transimperial history, global Middle Eastern studies, and Cold War dynamics in the Middle East and North Africa.

Education: PhD in History from Columbia University (2004). Current projects include: 1) A transimperial history monograph and edited volumes from a 2022 conference; 2) Article-length studies on global Middle Eastern history with a primary sources collection for the Wilson Center Digital Archive; and 3) Editing The Cambridge Companion to the Cold War in the Middle East and North Africa.

His work emphasizes comparative imperial studies, notably analyzing France and the US in the 1950s. He has organized conferences such as 'Transimperial comparisons: France & the US, 1950s' and authored foundational texts like The Middle East and the Making of the Modern World (2017).
