Cyndi Miecznikowski is an Associate Professor and Director of First-Year Composition in the English department at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP). She joined the faculty in 2005 after earning a BS in English and Economics-Management from Russell Sage College, an MA in English from Binghamton University, and a PhD in English Literature (with minors in Literary Theory and Rhetoric/Composition) from Pennsylvania State University. Her expertise spans rhetorical history, theory, pedagogy, and writing practices.
Her research focuses on information literacy, student persistence, and voice development in writing instruction. She teaches courses such as Composition II, Advanced Composition for Social Work, and History of Rhetoric. Notably, her co-authored chapter in *Reclaiming Accountability* won the CWPA Best Book Award in 2018. Dr. Miecznikowski also oversees the Quality Enhancement Plan and maintains extensive office hours to support students. Her son Brenden Sheard graduated from UNCP in 2024 with a BA in Music Industry.
