Curtis Swope

Curtis Swope serves as a Distinguished Visiting Lecturer in the German Studies Department and Writing Program at Wellesley College, integrating language instruction with critical cultural analysis.

Dr. Swope's research operates at the intersection of literary studies, Marxist theory, and transnational art history. Central to his work is Modern German Literature, expanded through investigations of Socialist cultural production across Europe and Latin America. His scholarship critically examines Marxist Aesthetics via Mexican muralism (Siqueiros, Rivera), European Modern Architecture, and East German literary debates, while pioneering connections to Marxist Ecology through Brecht studies. Recent outputs include a Fall 2024 monograph on Siqueiros (Manchester University Press) and forthcoming analyses of 1968 global uprisings and Seghers' Marxist frameworks.
