Cunningham Valentine

Valentine Cunningham is a Professor of English Language & Literature at Oxford University (since 1996) and Chair of the English Faculty (since 1984). He holds a permanent visiting position at Konstanz University (1994–2002) and is a Fellow at the Grossbrittanien Zentrum, Humboldt University (since 2013). His academic career includes roles such as Fellow & Tutor in English Literature at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and Junior Research Fellow at St John's College, Oxford.

Research focuses on literary theory, the Spanish Civil War in literature, Shakespeare, Victorian and modern British poetry/fiction, and the cultural history of the 1930s. He has held visiting professorships at institutions like Massachusetts University and Freiburg University.

Recognized with the title of Professor Honoris Causa from Bucharest University (2013). Engaged in public intellectual work, including BBC Radio broadcasts and judging literary prizes like the Booker Prize (1992, 1998) and Commonwealth Writers Prize (2000–2001).
