Crystal Luo

Crytal Luo is an Assistant Professor of Asian American History and Career Diversity Officer at Georgetown University's Department of History within the College. Her research focuses on the intersections of race, capitalism, and urban politics in 20th-century global contexts. She holds a PhD and MA in modern U.S. history from the University of Virginia.

Her current book project, Asiatowns, examines how California’s Bay Area cities became 'more Asian' post-World War II through the interplay of Asian American community growth and political engagement with municipal policies favoring Asian foreign investment and 'Pacific Rim' economic strategies. This work critiques how Asian Americans both shaped and contested late 20th-century globalization.
