Andrew Sobanet

Andrew Sobanet serves as Interim Dean of Georgetown University's College of Arts & Sciences and holds a Professorship in French & Francophone Studies. He joined Georgetown in 2002, previously serving as Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs and Department Chair. His academic affiliations include the Program in Global and Comparative Literature, Film and Media Studies, and the Center for Jewish Civilization.

Dr. Sobanet specializes in political power dynamics in literature and culture, focusing on 20th-century French novels, Vichy France, and mass media. His notable works include Generation Stalin (2018) and Jail Sentences (2008). Recently, he collaborates with Georgetown’s Massive Data Institute to analyze French-language social media discourse.

Education: PhD and MA from University of Pennsylvania, BA from University of Colorado Boulder.
