Cory Schmitt

Dr. Cory Schmitt is an Assistant Professor, Associate Director of Bands, and Director of Athletic Bands at Austin Peay State University. He directs the Governors Own Marching Band, Pep Band, and Go Band while conducting the Symphonic Band. His teaching focuses on marching band techniques and instrumental pedagogy.

Education:

• DMA in Wind Conducting, University of Iowa (expected 2025)
• MA in Wind Conducting & Trumpet Performance, University of Northern Iowa (2014)
• BM in Music Education, James Madison University (2012)

Research interests encompass:

• Wind ensemble leadership and pedagogy
• Marching band choreography and programming

Awards and honors:

• Myron Welch Fellowship at University of Iowa

He maintains active professional engagements as a clinician, adjudicator, and guest conductor nationwide. Previously, he served as Director of Wind Symphony at Waldorf University and taught secondary instrumental programs for eight years.
