Prof. Dr. Sebastian Conrad is Chair of Modern History at the Free University of Berlin since 2010. He previously held Full Professorships at the European University Institute (Florence, 2007–2010) and assistant professorships at his current institution (2003–2010). His academic trajectory includes fellowships at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris), and the New School for Social Research (NYC).
Education: Habilitation (2005), Ph.D. (1999 summa cum laude), and M.A. (1994) from Free University of Berlin, specializing in History and Japanese Studies with Economics minor.
Research focuses on global history frameworks, transnational processes, and postcolonial studies. Key projects include the DFG Research Training Group "Global Intellectual History" (2017–2021) and the Academy of Korean Studies-funded project on Korea in Global History (2011–2015). His theoretical contributions include seminal works like What is Global History? (Princeton UP, 2016) and Globalgeschichte: Eine Einführung (Beck, 2013).
