Conrad James is an Associate Professor in the Department of World Cultures and Literatures at the University of Houston's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. He holds a PhD in Latin American literature from the University of Cambridge. Previously, he taught at UK institutions including the Universities of Durham and Birmingham, and held visiting positions at the University of Maryland and UC Santa Cruz. His research focuses on Spanish Caribbean literature, visual culture, and Afro-Hispanic cultural production, with emphasis on Afro-Cuban writing and Dominican fiction.
- Current research projects: 'Cultural Transactions in Cuban Literature and Visual Culture' and 'Transnational Geographies of 21st Century Caribbean Narratives'
Publications include three major works: 2019's Filial Crisis and Erotic Politics, 2012's Writing the Afro-Hispanic, and 2000's Cultures of the Hispanic Caribbean. His work bridges literary analysis with cultural studies, examining race, gender, and postcolonial dynamics in Caribbean contexts.
