About
Colleen McCarten is a Toronto-based visual artist and educator currently serving as a Lecturer in the Material Art and Design department at OCAD University’s Faculty of Design. Her practice focuses on material-based art and textiles, with extensive teaching experience across institutions like the Toronto School of Art, Toronto District School Board, and CAMH.
- Education: BDes in Material Art and Design (Textiles) from OCAD University (2009–2013), Landscape Design & Horticultural Studies from Niagara College (2007–2008), and Fashion Techniques & Design from George Brown College (2005–2007).
Her solo exhibitions include showcases at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery and the former Angell Gallery in Toronto, alongside group exhibitions at Harbourfront Centre and the Textile Museum of Canada. Her textile art is held in permanent collections such as the Bank of Montreal and Carbon/American Express.
McCarten has received funding support from the Toronto Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council, and Canada Council for the Arts. She has taught textile programs through diverse institutions including the Design Exchange and the City of Oshawa.
