Colin MacCormack

Colin MacCormack is an Assistant Professor of Classical Languages and Literature at Smith College. His research focuses on Greek and Latin poetry, particularly Hellenistic and Roman Imperial epic and didactic works, with a specialization in animals in Greco-Roman literature and the intersection of classical texts with posthumanist theory. He also explores the reception of antiquity in modern popular media through his podcast Movies We Dig, which analyzes films and TV shows related to ancient history. Dr. MacCormack received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and has been featured for his work on 18th-19th century Black scholars in Texas through the Black Classicists in Texas exhibition.

His fields of interest include animal studies in classical literature, theoretical approaches to non-human subjects in works by Aristotle, Ovid, and Lucan, and the cultural impact of ancient themes in contemporary cinema and comics like Lore Olympus. He co-hosts podcast episodes discussing films such as La Chimera, Blood of Zeus, and She's the Man, blending academic analysis with pop culture commentary.
