Dr. Clodagh Toomey is an Associate Professor at the School of Allied Health, University of Limerick, and holds an adjunct Associate Professor position at Southern Denmark University. As a CORU-registered physiotherapist and health services researcher, she specializes in musculoskeletal injury prevention, osteoarthritis management, and implementation science.
- Research Focus: Modifiable risk factors for osteoarthritis, implementation science for equitable evidence-based treatments, participatory health research methods.
- Teaching: Leads modules in Anatomy and Physiology of Human Performance, Sports Injuries, and Clinical Applications of Exercise on undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
- Leadership: Research lead for the GLA:D® Ireland initiative and director of the GLA:D® International Network across 11 countries.
Her work integrates implementation science with participatory methods to optimize clinical guidelines for osteoarthritis care. Recent research includes evaluating GLA:D® implementation in public/private settings, barriers to exercise programs, and systematic reviews of digital health interventions. Awards include HRB Emerging Investigator and President’s Research Excellence and Impact at UL.
