Cliona Kirwan is Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cancer Sciences at the University of Manchester and Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon. Trained at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School with FRCS(gen) and PhD credentials, her clinical and academic work focuses on the symbiotic relationship between cancer and coagulation systems.
Research Program:
- Leads CHAMPion and T-POETIC studies on cancer-induced hypercoagulability
- Explores thrombin pathway in breast cancer dissemination
- Investigates radiotherapy effects on extracellular matrix
- Develops novel methods for circulating tumor cell detection
She serves on national committees including NCRI Breast Cancer Studies Group and mentors surgical research collaboratives. Her research advances cancer diagnostics through coagulation biomarkers and explores targeted anti-clotting therapies.
