Clare Mathes

Clare Mathes is Chair of the Department of Neuroscience and an Associate Professor at Baldwin Wallace University. Her research focuses on the neurochemical mechanisms of taste detection and enjoyment, particularly how taste-guided behaviors influence eating patterns and body weight status. She employs animal models (primarily rats) for experimental studies.

Her laboratory specializes in stereotaxic, gut, oral, and vascular surgery techniques, with current projects examining hindbrain dopamine D2 receptors' role in taste-guided behavior. She also teaches courses in Neuropharmacology and Physiological Psychology.
