Claire Shelley is a Senior Lecturer in Education (ITT Mathematics) at the University of Northampton, affiliated with the Faculty of Health, Education and Society and the Education Centre for Education and Research. She holds a First Class BSc Honours in Mathematics and Education (1993), MA in Education (2014, Distinction), and is completing a PGDip in Dyscalculia. Her research focuses on mathematical learning, dyscalculia's impact on education, and pre-service teacher preparation in primary schools.
Research interests include Initial Teacher Education (ITE), pre-service teacher perceptions of curriculum subjects, and supporting learners with special educational needs. Recent work highlights concerns about primary teacher readiness in non-core subjects.
Key awards include HEA Fellowship (2017). Recent presentations include a 2024 conference exploring mathematical anxiety and dyscalculia in pre-service teachers. Active in curriculum development and inclusive education advocacy.
