Claire Garoutte is an Associate Professor in the Department of Visual Arts at Seattle University, where she also serves as director of Photography. She has worked extensively in Cuba since 1994, focusing on cultural studies and documentary photography. Her research explores artistic expression, cross-cultural documentation, and visual narratives of trust and spirituality.
She has authored/co-authored two significant publications: Matter of Trust (1996) and Crossing the Water: A Photographic Path to the Afro-Cuban Spirit World (2007). Her work has been exhibited internationally.
