Christopher Sancomb

Christopher Sancomb is an Assistant Professor of Industrial Design in the Department of Art & Art History at the University of Connecticut’s School of Fine Arts. His hybrid practice bridges art and science, focusing on interdisciplinary projects that merge design with educational outreach through museums and public installations. He holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

Sancomb’s research emphasizes inclusive, hands-on learning environments for science and children’s museums, funded by NSF, NEA, and NASA grants. His creative work translates scientific data (e.g., EKG patterns, astronomical phenomena) into tangible visual systems, exploring themes like cosmic scale, empathy, and creative confidence. Notable projects include Slice of Life (2021), a sculpture interpreting Neil Armstrong’s heart data, and Splintersections (2022), an outdoor installation responding to natural environments.

His teaching specialties include product design, exhibition design, and pedagogical strategies for fostering collaboration. Recent artworks such as Mirroring (2021) and Throughway (2022) showcase his exploration of materiality and spatial interaction through drawing and sculpture.
