Christopher Murtagh

Christopher Murtagh serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice and Forensic Investigation at Jacksonville State University's College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, joining the faculty in 2017 after a 32-year career with the Framingham, Massachusetts Police Department.

His educational credentials include a Master's Degree from Westfield State University and a Doctorate in Social Policy from Brandeis University.

Dr. Murtagh's expertise spans practical law enforcement domains including underwater recovery operations, SWAT tactics, gang unit investigations, and crime analysis/intelligence. His research bridges academic social policy frameworks with field experience in policing strategies and forensic methodologies.

During his police career, he held specialized assignments: over twenty years on the Underwater Recovery Unit, ten years on the SWAT Team, and service in the Patrol Division, Street Crimes/Gang Unit, and Crime Analysis/Intelligence Unit.
