About
Christopher Muhlstein is Professor and Associate Chair for Academics & Research in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Georgia Tech. He directs the Muhlstein Lab, specializing in deformation and failure mechanisms across materials systems.
His research examines fracture, fatigue, and creep in ceramics, metals, polymers, composites, and thin films at multiple length scales. Current projects focus on nanoscale material behavior under stress and structural reliability for energy, transportation, and infrastructure applications.
Dr. Muhlstein co-directs the NSF Industry-University Cooperative Research Center for Composite Hybrid Materials Interfacing (CHMI) and serves as Associate Director of the Mechanical Properties Characterization Facility. He is Program Chair for the 15th International Conference on Fracture (ICF15).
