About
Dr. Ryan Berke is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Utah State University. His research specializes in mechanical characterization of solids and structures in extreme environments, particularly high-temperature behavior of materials including fracture, fatigue, and creep.
He directs a laboratory developing advanced imaging techniques for full-field, in-situ deformation and strain measurements across temperature, time, and length scales. Applications span aerospace, energy, and nuclear industries. His group investigates fundamental deformation mechanisms in high-temperature materials using optical methods like digital image correlation adapted for extreme conditions.
Dr. Berke has received multiple awards including the Distinguished Male Ally of Women in Advanced Manufacturing (2024), Springer/Nature Young Investigator Lecture (2023), and Fulbright US Scholars Program (2024). He teaches courses in Solid Mechanics, Experimental Solid Mechanics, and Micro-Mechanisms of Deformation and Failure.
