About
Dr. Christopher Lowe is a Lecturer in Marine Biology at Swansea University’s School of Biosciences, Geography and Physics. He leads the Marine Biology degree program and coordinates first-year Biosciences courses. His roles include academic supervision via the University’s research vessel Mary Anning and teaching boat-based marine ecology, oceanography, and field methodologies.
His research focuses on environmental remote sensing, bio-optical oceanography, and modeling human-environment interactions. Key interests include coastal management policy, plankton dynamics, and marine conservation strategies like seagrass restoration using Hessian bags. He actively engages with EU and UK environmental policy frameworks.
Recent work includes developing acoustic tagging methods for aquatic monitoring and evaluating virtual healthcare systems during the pandemic. His publications span marine policy, ecological modeling, and innovative monitoring technologies.
Teaching responsibilities include modules BIO245 (boat-based marine biology), BIO260 (marine field course), and BIO262 (oceanography). He emphasizes hands-on marine research experience through fieldwork and vessel operations.
